Jacket® XL |
| High Density
Two Layer Polyethylene Coating |
 |
| PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION |
| Yellow Jacket® XL is a tougher,
significantly improved Yellow Jacket® product which meets
or exceeds all of the materials and performance property requirements
of international standards including AS/NZS1518:2002 and ANSI/AWWA
C215-2004. Yellow Jacket® XL has many similar performance
characteristics as a 3-Layer HDPE coating system, including
critical characteristics such as resistance to damage from
storage, handling and transportation along with the ability
to operate at temperatures up to 70°C. Yellow Jacket® XL
maintains many of the advantages of the standard Yellow Jacket® coating
system including compatibility with readily available field
joint coating systems. |
| FEATURES
AND BENEFITS |
Long Term Corrosion Protection
Yellow Jacket® XL consists of a seamless continuous sheath
of high density polyethylene extruded over a newly developed
tougher hybrid adhesive material. It combines the high peel
strength and indentation resistant characteristics of a copolymer
adhesive normally used in a 3-Layer HDPE coating system with
the excellent adhesion-to-steel and cathodic disbondment properties
of a mastic adhesive used in the standard Yellow Jacket® coating
system.
The high density polyethylene topcoat is applied using
crosshead application technology, therefore creating a
seamless coating
that is lamination free.
Mechanical Protection
The new tougher Yellow Jacket® XL adhesive combined
with its robust high density polyethylene topcoat protects
pipelines
during transportation and installation, therefore reducing
costly repairs while also providing added in-ground protection
against shear forces, chemicals and abrasive soil conditions.
The Yellow Jacket® XL system provides a high level
of mechanical protection across many diverse environments
without
requiring
the use of introduced select backfill.
Yellow Jacket® XL
far exceeds the stockpiling requirements of AS1518-2002
and is extremely resistant to handlingand
stockpiling damage from extreme environment conditions,
including high
ambient temperatures.
Operational Parameters
The high lap shear and peel strength properties of the
new adhesive allows Yellow Jacket® XL to be used
for all soil conditions up to 70°C pipeline operating
temperatures and is
compatible with all field joint coating systems currently
deployed in the Australian onshore oil & gas market.
The
tougher nature of the new Yellow Jacket® XL adhesive
has retained the excellent bendability of the standard
Yellow Jacket® product. The adhesive passes
all plasticity and flexibility tests from AS1518-2002-Appendix
B.
The lap shear and resistance to flow properties of
the adhesive means that little or no shrink back
of the high
density polyethylene
topcoat occurs. |
